Inclusive Leadership & Belonging

The Division of Inclusive Culture & Belonging is delighted to announce that we will be hosting the 2024 CU Social Justice Summit at UCCS! This year’s theme is Inclusive Leadership and Belonging, centering each campus's commitment to fostering inclusive learning and work environments. Come join us for an empowering event with engaging discussions alongside leaders, educators, researchers, and advocates dedicated to fostering inclusive leadership and belonging across our communities.

The summit will explore four areas of focus:

Social Activism and Community Engagement:
The significance of social activism and community engagement cannot be overstated. This session's breakout theme is a rallying point for collaboration and community organizing among individuals and groups committed to advancing social justice and community empowerment. Attendees will gain practical methods for affecting positive social change, fostering inclusive communities, and tackling pressing issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Equity in Research, Teaching, and Scholarship:
Pursuing equity in research, teaching, and scholarship is a paramount objective across higher education institutions. Achieving genuine inclusivity and fairness requires deliberate efforts and comprehensive strategies that go beyond mere rhetoric. These sessions aim to convene scholars, educators, researchers, and practitioners from diverse disciplines and backgrounds to explore, discuss, and advance the principles and practices of equity across all academic domains.

Mental Health, Wellness, and Self Care:
Mental health, wellness, and self-care encompass emotional, psychological, and social well-being. They affect how we handle stress, connect with others, and engage with the world around us. As we navigate various work styles, changing academic landscapes, and uncertainties, mental health and self-care discussions become imperative. These sessions offer insights on better care practices, enabling us to show up as our best selves in our personal and professional practices.

Advocacy, Safety, and Transformative Justice:
The critical intersection of advocacy, safety, and transformative justice explores elements essential for building resilient and empowered communities. The sessions underscore the importance of community safety in nurturing trust, cohesion, and well-being. They explore innovative practices and interventions to foster secure spaces for marginalized groups, thereby fortifying the core of resilient communities and instilling a sense of security and assurance. Through the session presentations and interactive discussions, participants are encouraged to explore the principles and practices of transformative justice in promoting healing, accountability, and reconciliation.
