The Roberto Saldana Empowerment Scholarship supports students who want to improve their lives through education, contribute to society and make a difference in their communities through education who otherwise would not be able to attend college without financial assistance. The scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students (sophomore standing or higher) with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and demonstrate financial need.

The donor expressed a strong desire to encourage applications from Hispanic women. However, the selection of the winners will be based upon the merit of submitted materials, and will not take into consideration an applicant’s status in any of the protected class categories.

The Leo Gomez Scholarship Fund is a need-based scholarship for students enrolled in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, who are majoring in Communication. Eligible students must demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than March 1st.

The Eileen S. Burnley Endowed Scholarship Fund shall provide scholarship support to continuing undergraduate and/or graduate students at CU Denver and UCCS. First preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in business who graduated from school District 11. Students majoring in communication, arts, or the humanities may also be considered. Students from underrepresented populations are highly encouraged to apply, however, an applicant’s membership in any protected class category will not be considered a factor in the selection process. To qualify students should demonstrate a commitment to community in their submitted scholarship application materials.

The Nadia Babish Scholarship was established by Ms. Babish’s family to honor her career as a medical laboratory scientist. This scholarship is available to students who will enter their senior year in the Medical Laboratory Science program, and who have cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Typical award amounts are $5,000, but may vary. Preference will be first given to students with a physical disability; however students do not have to have a disability to apply. Both financial need and academic merit will be considered during the selection process. Students must demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than March 1st.

Rita E. Jackson sought and succeeded in achieving independence. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in U.S. History in 1974 and continued graduate study in the School of Education at the University of Colorado Denver. She went on to work as a caseworker and later as a contracted hearing officer with the Jefferson Country Department of Human Services. In addition to her professional career in social work, Jackson volunteered time and energy to reforming nursing homes, clarifying Native American water rights, and the King of Glory Lutheran Church. She was also a person with quadriplegia and a wheelchair user as a result of an automobile accident at the age of seventeen.


The Rita E. Jackson Scholarship is awarded to non-traditional age (25 years or older) graduate or undergraduate students seeking independence and self-sufficiency with special medical needs impacting mobility, and who have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students must be residents of Colorado and employed at least part-time to be considered for the award. The scholarship is need-based and students must demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA -ASSET students only) no later than March 1st.

The Dona and Floyd Hildebrand Scholarship is awarded to non-traditional undergraduate students who are returning to college later in life. The award is for full-time students with a minimum 3.0 GPA, are Colorado residents, and is renewable for up to four years as long as you continue to meet the program’s requirements. To be considered, students must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA by March 1st and submit an application for the UCCS Non-Traditional Student Scholarship by May 1st. Preference shall be given to students who served or are serving in the military.

The Karen Possehl Women’s Endowment (KPWE) is for students of non-traditional age (typically 25 years or older), who plan to enroll full-time, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, are Colorado residents, and have the ability to finish an undergraduate degree. To be considered, students must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA by March 1st and submit an application for the UCCS Non-Traditional Student Scholarship by May 1st.

Recipients of the KPWE scholarship are encouraged to apply for a limited number of graduate awards if they choose to pursue a UCCS graduate program. Awards are $5,000 per academic year and are renewable based upon meeting renewal requirements. Additional childcare scholarships are also available to recipients.

The Wayne Caudill Veteran’s Affairs Scholarship Fund provides undergraduate scholarship awards for non-traditional student veterans or students who have direct family connections to the military at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus. Students who have significant family responsibilities, disabilities, or have overcome hardships including mental health and/or behavioral health and substance abuse are especially encouraged to apply.
