DEI Campus Programs
Throughout the year UCCS hosts a variety of education programs, events, and celebrations for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. These signature programs are hosted by the DEI-focused departments with the goal of creating unique opportunities to learn about DEI and the diverse experiences of others.
Campus-Wide Signature Programs
Campus-Wide Signature Programs are annual programs that honor the diverse experiences of UCCS students, staff, and faculty hosted across the campus.
Heritage & Identity Month Programs
In celebration of the histories and contributions of historically marginalized identities, UCCS commemorates heritage and identity months throughout the year. These recognitions are an opportunity for all members of the community to learn more about the traditions, people, scholarship, history, and current experiences of those who've overcome oppression to create opportunities for all.
LGBTQ+ Programs
Departments across UCCS host programs to create a sense of belonging for the LGBTQ+ community at UCCS. Along with creating opportunities for education and growth for UCCS students, staff, and faculty.
Faculty & Staff Programs
UCCS values staff and faculty development and their understanding of DEI topics. Departments across the campus offer programs and events for staff and faculty to attend.

Departments across UCCS hosts programs to create a sense of belonging for diverse students and create opportunities for our students to grow in their understanding of DEI.
DEI Program Planning Resources
Across UCCS departments, colleges, and organizations plan and host a variety of events, programs, and trainings for UCCS students, faculty, staff, and the community. To support these programming efforts, the Office of DEI Education and Outreach has comprised resources focused in the areas of programming planning, program marketing, budgets, and program assessment.
Campus-Wide DEI Educational Training
The Office of DEI Education and Outreach offers staple trainings focused on the core principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for UCCS students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the community. These trainings aim to create a safe environment focused on a growth mindset and community connections. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Educational Training are facilitated by a DEI professional with relevant and accurate knowledge of DEI topics that creates interactive content that connects individuals and broadens their own perspectives, along with providing the tools to create DEI actionable change. All DEI trainings are tied to the UCCS DEI Strategic Framework Pillars and are available to all UCCS students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
DEI Training Goals/Outcomes
Create the opportunity for collaborative dialogue and interactive discussion that highlights the importance of cultural empathy and is inclusive of diverse voices.
Cultivate inclusive belonging by clearly defining principles of DEI that connects individuals and broadens their own perspectives.
Identify the intersections between daily experiences and DEI theoretical frameworks.
Provide skill building opportunities and tools needed to empower individuals to seek out campus and community pathways to create change.
Increase self-efficacy of individuals by highlighting how individual actions and capabilities can create positive change or influence.
Inclusive Belonging is a 45-60 minute interactive training focused on the foundations of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. The training will overview key terms, the value of DEI, and provide tools to create inclusive belonging.
Participants who attend this training will be able to:
Understand UCCS' value of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
Introduction to DEI key terminology
Identify tools and resources needed to create inclusive belonging
Engage in collaborative practices of creating inclusive belonging at UCCS
Beyond the Binary is a 90 minute interactive training that covers gender identity and expression, Sexual orientation basics, and essential language and pronoun usage. This training is designed to establish a common foundation of understanding for participants to better enable them to create a culture of inclusive belonging at UCCS.
Participants who attend this training will be able to:
Understand UCCS' value of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Introduction of LGBTQ+ Terminology .
Grow in their awareness of the experiences and issues facing LGBTQ+ individuals.
Engage in the collaborative practices of advocacy for the visibility and needs of LGBTQ+ community members at UCCS.
Creating Inclusive Environments & Collaborative Conversations is a 90 minute interactive training that focuses on identifying the value and core foundations of DEI. Along with providing the tools and resources to building healthy collaborative conversations through inclusive language.
Participants who attend this training will be able to:
Understand UCCS' value of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Build on their understanding of DEI terminology and language
Identify tools and resources to create inclusive environments
Grow in their communication skills and ability to create collaborative conversations
Breaking Down Barriers is an interactive 90-minute training focused on the barriers to create inclusive belonging. The training will address the impact of bias in DEI, the role of trust and communication in breaking down barriers and providing tools to create inclusive connections.
Participants who attend this training will be able to:
Understand UCCS' value of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
Grow in their knowledge of DEI foundations.
Identify the varying types of bias
Engage in the collaborative practices of breaking down the barriers that led to bias.

Disability Services
The Disability Services department offers training to staff and faculty in the areas of Disability Etiquette, Universal Design in the Classroom, Creating an Accessible Workspace, Working with blind and low-vision students, and Do's and Don'ts for Website Developers.

Human Resources
The UCCS Human Resources team delivers professional development trainings for staff and faculty. These trainings focus on leadership development, challenging conversations, and culture building.

Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resiliency Trauma Training
The Trauma Training Program is an online program designed to give professionals and students a basic understanding of the symptoms, impact, and treatment of trauma in several populations. Past students include victims’ advocates, police officers, graduate, and undergraduate students from a variety of fields, healthcare workers, and individuals who have experienced stress or trauma themselves. This program consists of two eight-week courses including articles, videos, media, and informed discussions. There are no scheduled meeting times, rather students move through the material and share thoughts and reflections in weekly discussions.
The Trauma Training Program provides a foundational understanding of how stress and trauma impact the mind and body, as well as the impact of trauma on different populations. Students can apply information they have learned in this course to their own experiences of stress and trauma and/or in their occupational or educational experiences in working with individuals who have experienced stress and trauma.

The Matrix Center
The Matrix Center works with universities, corporations, non-profits, and schools to help develop strategies and meet diversity/inclusiveness goals. Their trainers are national experts, authors and educators, involved in shaping the national discourse around diversity. In addition, their consultants specialize in a range of issues including LGBTQ inclusion, K12 education, curriculum development, facilitation skills, strategies for integrating campus and organizational diversity requirements, among others.

MOSAIC & The LGBTQ+ Resource Center
MOSAIC & The LGBTQ+ Resource Center offers DEI trainings. Their trainings and programs are open to all UCCS students, faculty, and staff.

Veteran & Military Affairs
The Veteran Educators Training and Support program (V.E.T.S.) is an interactive training session designed to provide faculty and staff with applicable information about the student veteran transition experience and strategies for understanding and helping veterans succeed academically.

Wellness Center
The Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center hosts a number of programs and trainings on mental and physical health in an effort to promote the health and wellbeing of all students on campus.

International Affairs
UCCS faculty and staff can gain international experience through a variety of activities ranging from studying, teaching or researching abroad; integrating global dimensions into their curriculum; or leading a faculty-directed course abroad.
